?3/12/2006 - Some more pics from the Tiger Shark dive
|
Some little guys arrived as well

What struck me the most is how much bigger these Tigers were

Look out behind you!

Beautiful animals in their own right, very "sleek"

And few more of the Tigers

All in all a fantastic dive, 60 minutes of pure excitement. So if you ever in SA give me a shout and we can go on one!

?3/12/2006 - Tiger shark dive
I have been far to quiet here lately. As promised to a few people here are some of the vid caps from my latest dive with the Tiger Sharks. Sorry for the poor quality, I dont know how to get them at a higher res off the video.
Tring to make a low res video too, just a bit of a mission to keep the file size down without ruining the quality. Soon as thats sorted I will post that too.

?9/2/2005 - Tiger Sharks
?8/24/2005 - A shark dive, of sorts
So I am down in Cape Town for
business, I have been looking forward to this for a while now hoping to
get a few dives in.Unfortunately the conditions have been really crappy.
So last night I was supposed to go out for a strategy session with the
boss, managed to get out of that and other plans fell by the way side
so I contacted a friend that runs the aquarium dives at the Two Oceans
Aquarium. He said cool come along and give us a hand cleaning
the shark tank. So I got to swim around the shark tank with a couple of
pretty large raggies, nice warm water and very very clear. Sure its not
a "real" dive. But I am just glad I had the opportunity to get wet. Found a couple of teeth too :)

?7/19/2005 - Hammerhead!
|
FINALLY!! I have always wanted to see a hammerhead on a dive and up until now I have not had the opportunity.
On a dive at Protea Banks this weekend saw one on the way up to the
safety stop, stayed around us for a minute or so and then swam off.
What a beautiful animal! Sorry bout the pic quality I had to grab the
camera off one of my students and the settings were all messed up.

?7/12/2005 - Raggies, raggies everywhere
What could be better than Aliwal Shoal from June-Nov?
Where else can you see upwards of 20-50 sharks in a single dive? Just
dropping onto the sand and staying in one spot for a whole dive? Doesnt
sound like much fun but when you have sharks constantly cruising above
and around you it can be one of the best diving experiences around. Then again if you do decide to swim off you could encunter a few manta rays, turtles, lionfish and more Bliss!

?7/12/2005 - White shark encounter
This has to be my favourite dive of all time!
We were diving pinacles on Protea Banks. We were relaxing under an
overhand watching the fish and a pretty big Tiger shark, it was around
4m long. Next thing the reef just went quiet, no fish, the Tiger swam
off. We looked at each other and said ok lets go up As we
swam out from the overhang a MASSIVE White shark swam over us, she was
at least 5.5m long and absolutely HUGE. After the initial shock we sort
of calmed down and went back under the overhang, she swam past us three
times and was realy eyeing us out, you could almost see the curiosity
in her eyes. We hit our minimum air and decided to ascend, she followed
us up all the way to our saftey stop, staying around 3m away from us at
all times. Needless to say it was an interesting safety stop!
We deployed our SMB and looked up to make sure the boat was above us,
we ascended to underneath the boat and my buddy went over first. The
White shark was still around 3m away from me just below. I took my
chance and bolted over the side of the boat, I was shaking so much from
the excitement. We then looked over the edge and she lifter her head
out the water to check us out again. She circled the boat a few times,
raising her head out the water 3 more times and then she swam off.
This was without a doubt the best White Shark encounter I have ever
had, she was the biggest I have seen and it was an amazing experience.
I have been in the water quite a few times with White sharks, mostly on
the wreck of the Birckenhead, but this was the first time one so big
was around and in such clear water. Needless to say I now keep a camera with me on each and every dive!
