5/31/2007 - First Dives of 07 Monday Memorial Day

Any way my Dive Club had a dive and cook out  today at  the Quarry (HQ) we had about 12 people show up and we did some great dives in different size groups. Our first dive for the group of 5 i was in we did a Deep Water entry off the  West Dock drop down and went over to the ss Flamingo which is a house boat then over  to the Lark. Both sit in 45 feet of water. Air temp was 70, water temp at surface was 56 water temp at depth 45 ft was a cool 48 degrees Vis was beatiful a good 35 feet or better.Time of dive 35 minutes.
Second dive around noon was a first for me. Another  Deep Water Entry off the  West Dock this time we were going to do  dive West Wall  then they wanted to show me the drop off to the   Deep  Hole then from there we would hit the  East Wall surface then float back to the dock. Well we did just that and it was another deep dive we stayed at 60 ft got to the entrance of the deep hole drop down for a few minutes to 65 ft and just went across the opening.Ended dive at 35 feet and surface for the float back.Water at depth another cool one this time it was 46 degrees. Hood Gloves 7mm wetsuit warm the whole time.Time of dive was 30 minutes and vis was still good at 35 to 38 ft
Saw a few fish over on the deep end today but we sure as heck saw more Snakes today then fish lol lol . Yep our spot was over my the  West Dock there is about 5 tables there and room for about a dozen cars or trucks. Well we had a quest for the cook out a 4 ft Bull Snake  took a look around and he headed back to the brush by the water. Then 10 minutes later some one yelled Snake by the dock in the water yep another Bull Snake in the water by the  rocks .Then as i was leaving the Quarry going down the long  driveway to the main road i had to stop because there was a 6 ft Bull snake across the drive way just taking his time getting across.Snakes 3 Fish 2 LOL. Great dives today along with some Snakes and Fishes and a good cook out.  Snorkel

4/5/2007 - Spring in the Mid West

OMG the last time i made a Post here was Oct 31 he he he.  Well most of the Winter was really Mild then after the first of the year all hell broke lose . Very cold weather and lots of snow and more cold. The only diving i did was Pool Dives once a month with the Dive Club so at least i was getting Wet and Blowing some  Bubbles.I also went to the yearly scuba show and expo Our World Underwater which is held here every  Feb so that kind of broke thing s up for the winter and that usually opens our diving season out in this part of the World.

Now it s spring the Quarry is open but the water temp is 40 degrees and the vis is great around 40 to50 ft. Only problem most of the divers are using there dry suit s so for some of us were waiting for the water to hit 50degrees like we do every year . We usually hit the quarry the first weekend in May so it s going to be kind of touch and go because right now the last couple of day s Mother nature has decided to let us cool off a little  more with day time highs in the 30s. Funny last week we were in 60 s and 70 s.

So what do i want out of this dive season this year he he . Well lot s of dive s, maybe my first dive in Lake  Mich, and in a few week s i am going to go  to my LDS and sign up for my EFR and Rescue Diver Classes which i did not get a chance to do last Summer. Dont worry i wont be a stranger around here i will have plenty to wright about this Spring, Summer and Fall. Now if i can only get Mother Nature to turn up the Heat some what i will be happy.

10/31/2006 - $$$ My Money Dive$$$

I should of posted this before i did my last post but as usual i forgot  LOL. Anyway this dive took place on Saturday Oct  14  06. Enjoy.   Yesterday ( Saturday) it being a rather cool fall morning i was cutting the grass around 9am and notice the neighbors house 5 doors down had been TP. That was kind of odd because i know they have  no kids when i met them back in Aug as they were walking by one day.
Any way a little later the lady ( Debbie) whose house was TP came over to ask me for some help. I went with her to her house to the back yard and yes she did need my help big time. Besides TP two trees out front and one on the side of the house they also threw hand fulls of Pennies in the deep end (10ft) of there new Angry in ground pool.Bunch of kids with nothing to do on a Friday night after the football game.
I told Debbie i would be back in an hour so i took off for my LDS for a free air fill and to rent a set of regs and gagues. Well i did not have to pay for the rental Wink so that was good also. Got home grab my gear ,minus the wet suit ( heated pool) and headed over to  the pool. Got my gear all together and on and down i went for the next half hour picking up pennies off the pool bottom.Hey even Debbie jump in to try to help out as best she could for a few minutes. Smiley Wink Tongue
Amazing thing was  that no pennies  went down into the drain. After i got them all into a plastic bag and out of the water we counted them and came up with $4.58 in Pennies . Talk about  throwing money away plus the cost of about 8 rolls of TP. Looks like they had the wrong house because the people  behind Debbie s have 3 teenage kids in high school and guess what they also have an in ground pool. Those people dont know i dive so if they get hit they will have a lot of fun getting pennies out of the pool LOL.
She was happy about getting the pennies out of the pool and she said she was going to have her husband take the TP off the trees when he came back from his 3 day weekend of fishing with his buddies. She offered to pay me of course i told her Hell NO. Snorkel So that my friends was my Saturday morning Money Dive $$$$ for Oct 14 06. Wink

10/28/2006 - It s Been A While.

Hey now i know it s been a while since my last post back in Aug. I was able to get a few more dives in  Sept at the Quarry and had a chance to go on my first boat dive onto Lake Mich but i had to work that day and could not find any to cover for me.

The dive season is starting to come to a close out here in the Midwest but there are still a few good day s left. We just might get another day of diving in at the Quarry before they close for the year in Nov. I had a good summer of diving made a lot of new dive buddies. So now when the cold and the snow hit here i will go over to the LDS in Jan Feb and March and  get wet and blow some bubbles in the pool.

Speaking og getting wet and blowing bubbles. Last night Friday about 10 of us from my dive club i belong to were ask to help the local YMCA for there first ever Spooky Pool Night. What they did was turn there indoor pool into a Swamp and the dive club members were the swamp things. They would take kids 6 at a time in a Canoe around the pool and our job was to scare the Holy S### out of them. It was fun all the light s were off we all had on full scuba gear ,flash light s and glow sticks.

We  were in the water for 3 hours and they had about 400 kids come thru. It was a blast. After getting out of the pool and out of our gear and so on, the dive club took us out for Pizza and what ever we wanted to drink.Everyone had a great time even the kids.

8/20/2006 - Saturday Dives

Yesterday Aug 19 my dive buddy and i went to Haigh Quarry for a day of diving and just hanging out.It had rain on Friday real heavy but we said we were still on for Saturday. We got there around 8am and started to gear up about 10 minutes later.

Air temp was 73 degrees , no wind at all, water temp from the surface to 25ft was 74 degrees at around 40ft it would drop to 63 degrees and the vis all day was 15 to 20 ft depends where you were.  First dive i chose to do a wall dive off the beach.Only problem was there were two classes right in our way where we drop off at and i was not going to ask them to move so we went about 20 yards from them and went down.

Only problem no wall but a long slope so we went down to the bottom to 48 ft and came across a rather large  5 foot Dia and 40 ft long piece of pipe on a stand.Yes we found something again like we did last month without even trying. It was kind of  awsome to come across it.The we headed away from from it and again we came across the US Marine Corp Lark that we found last month. So we were able to check it out more did we did last time in July.  First dive went well  both came back with 1200  psi left and our dive lasted 30 minutes at 48 ft.

Second dive of the day about a hour later we decided to do a short dive with the remaining  air in our tanks so Tim pick the spot where the fish would be so he could get some pictures. As we got down to 28 ft he was ahead of me about 10ft when i saw something blue laying in the weeds about 20ft feet away from me. I found a brand new Blue snorkel that some one had lost during class that morning.Tim was able to find his fish and get some we check our air and yes it was time surface. Time on second dive 21 minutes at 28 ft water temp a nice 74 degrees.

Oh about the snorkel yes i was one of those Honest divers and took it up to the dive shop/office and turn it in and it just so happend that the person that lost it was there asking about it and was happy that some one found it.

Third dive about two hours later we did a wall dive it s a short wall only in 28ft of water and about 200ft long. So we went along that and then out over  to the Rock Crusher to see more fish and get more pictures. There were lot s of fish and i do mean lots in the area plus a lot of diver s.Third dive was another 28ft  dive for 40 minutes.

All and all it was a fun day of diving and hanging around with other divers.Which brings me to this. Yesterday there were about a good 300  people at the Quarry and i would say that half if not more were students in classes with there instructors. I have notice more and more women are taking up scuba diving and some of the classes we saw yesterday had more women in them then guys.Ladies by hat is off to you all no mater if you a rec diver, teck diver dive master or instructor your all doing a great thing for diving    and i know you Ladies  enjoy diving.  I would not be surprise if soon you will out number us guys and you know what thats just fine with me ,keep up the good work. Girls and Guys  till next time DSDO.

8/7/2006 - Chicago s Tall Ship Fest.

Sorry i dont have a dive report this time but i do have something of intrest. Yesterday Sunday Aug 6 we took a trip down to Chicago Navy Pier to see to  the Tall Ship s that were on display at the pier and along the famous Chicago River. On Thursday they had a prade of the ships as they came into port to there display areas.

A lot of major cities on the Great Lakes have these Tall Ship Fest and some of these Tall Ships also are in the New York Tall Ship Fest. These Tall Ships Fest s are not held every year in the same cities so you have to keep and eye out for when a city is having one.

By the way if your ever in Chicago you have to visit Navy pier. Lot s of thing s to see and do on the pier including lot s of shops and places to eat. Did have lunch at Bubba Gumps fron the movie Forest Gump and it was worth it.

Hope to have a dive report by next weekend so until then DSDO.

7/23/2006 - Surface Time In HOT California.

Well i just spent this last week July 14 thru July 21 in my home town of San Diego Calif visiting my folk s and seeing friends and all the tourist things. When i left Chicago it was in the 90 s the whole time i was our in SD it was in the 90 s but hey it was nice i love the HEAT.

I did have two   good choices while i was there and that was to either spend the day up at La jolla Cove diving or taking an all day sportfishing trip for Albacore Tuna. Well seeing how i only had one week out there and knowing that the Albacore run was on and having done the trip s a million times when i lived there and when i go back every 3 to 5 years it was not hard  at all to pick.

Hey it s in my  blood  i took the Albacore trip.My fishing buddy   keep s all my deep sea  fishing gear at his place so you see i always have gear there no use for it back here in Chicago on Lake Mich. Besides Ocean Fish put up a bigger fight then lake fish.

Our boat left with 20 of us on Sunday night at 11pm and we came back on Monday night a little after 8pm .  It was a nice trip and it was great to get out and see no land and smell the ocean air.I got 2 Albacores one was a 28 lb and one was a 26 lb. No i did not hook and release no one would ever think about that with Albacore, Blue Fin ,or Yellow Fin Tuna. Some people on our trip caught a couple of Blue Fin Tuna s also.Later on in the week we had BBQ Albacore Steaks what a BBQ.

The trip to Calif was great, planning on going out next June for a week or longer and next time i will make it to LaJolla Cove for a  day of diving and also make another Albacore run.

7/2/2006 - Nice Way To Start July Off

Yesterday July1 my dive buddy Tim and i started July off the right way by doing two good dives and a BBQ at our home away from home Haigh Quarry down in Kankakee IL.The weather was great 88 degrees, Wind out of the West at 25 mph water temp was 72 surface to 15 ft,68degrees to 25ft and at 45 ft it was 49 to 50 degrees.

On the first dive it was up to me to pick the dive so i wanted to do a deep water entry off the West dock and float out about 100yard s to the marker for the SS Flamingo which lays at 45 ft.She is a 33 foot all steel Cabin cruiser and i have been wanting to do this dive since i was certified two years ago.

So we got suited up wore gloves this time but no hoods again check each other gear got in and floated out to the marker. Now once we got to the marker Tim said since you have a compass take a heading on the nearest marker so when were done on the boat we could over there and check out the pile of pipe. No problem i take  the heading show him and we start down to the boat. down we go warm then a little cold and then  colder. We ladn on the money on the aft deck Tim takes a reading on his computer were at 45 ft water temp is 49 were ok. Hang around the boat for about 10 minutes then wer off on the heading to the next marker to see a pile of pipe.

Well as were going along there was a rise in the bottom and then a drop off and there it was not a pile of pipe but a US Marine Corps LARC 5 Amphibious Vehicle from the Vietnam War sitting  at 45 ft.Hey my mistake and look what we found and i did good on my Nav dives in my OW class two year s ago i guess i had a case of CRS you know Cant Remember S^%T lol. Any we decide to come up and we did a Surface stop for 3 minutes at 15ft in nice warm water. When we got on the surface we notice we went at least 100 more yards out of our way. Now it s time to float back to the dock. Oh and there is also a US Marine 2.5 ton dump truck sitting at 50ft  no far from wher we are but that will wait til Aug. First dive was 45 ft for 30 minutes and 30ft vis.

After a nice long SI sitting around talking to outher divers it s time for dive 2 which  tim said we would do a deep water entry float over to the other end and hang out over by the Rock Crusher area and around some small walls. But first before we get suited up it s time to light of the BBQ grill so things will be ready to cook when we get back.

Got suited up  go off the dock float to the other side and down we go to 24 ft along a wall for about 10 minutes then over to the Crusher. The fish were every where you looked in this area. We did not see one fish at all on the first dive there all over here . Tim was taking pictures and at one point of our dive i could see his bubbles and fins so i drop down to see what was going on and as i came around a corner i almost had a head on with a 6lb bass and Tim who was trying to get a picture. Second dive 24ft 28 minutes vis in this area 20 to 25ft.

Now it s time to throw the chicken on the grill for Tim s famous Jerk Chicken. Boy after two great dives the Jerk Chicken really hit the spot. Pack up our gear load the truck and suv and head for home.He s comming back on the 16th of July for the Haigh Memorial Dive thats held every year. I was planning on going but i will be flying out to my old home town of San Diego Calif on Friday the 14th to see the folks and friends for a week .

So until next time everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July Tuesday and Dive Safe Dive Often.

6/23/2006 - Surface Time

I have not been out getting wet and blowing bubbles since my last dive at the Quarry on June 6 due to a heavy work load at work and other thing s going on.But i will be going  next Saturday July 1st and looking forwrd to it.To much surface time for me but i am sure we all go thru it at times.

Last night Thursday we had our dive club( Midwest Divers)  monthly meeting at the dive shop and every thing with the club is going along real nice.At our meetings we try to always have a quiz best sscore get s a gift but last night we had something a little different. We were told to bring our log book s because the questions that were going to be ask you were going to have to show prooff. Some of the questions went like this. For 2006 Who, Who has not dove for 2006 yet,  Who has traveled the longest for a dive, Who went the Deepest and Who has the most C Cards. Then this one got everyone off guard Who is the newest club member.Well that was me i was told so i won a nice Club (Midwest Divers) T shirt.

Were having a cook out and dive on July 4th  at one of the Quarry s and our last cook out and dive on Memorial Day was a huge success. We have a lot plan for the summer and into Oct.

6/10/2006 - Dive Called Off.

Well we had plans to dive Pearl  Lake in South Beloit IL today it s a former sand quarry and i took my AWO dives there in Aug of 04.  Now we made these plans Tuesday when we were diving  at Haigh Quarry. For the last 2 weeks the weather here has been great low 70 s high 80 s but the bottom fell out Friday morning when the high was only 62 all day high and really windy and cloudy. Thats why the nickname for Chicago is the Windy City. Late last night rain was forcast for Saturday and highs only getting into the mid 50 s more wind. Another thing around here they tell you if you dont like the weather stick around 5 minutes and it will change.it s  true trust me i have seen it and felt it.

Sure enough the phone rings late last night dive has been called off no problem. Two hours later were having a huge down pour on and off all night long and today cloudy, cool and windy. What a way to end my vacation but hey i got two dives in last  Tuesday so i am happy.First time a dive has been called off for me but it happends to all of us some time or another no big deal.

6/6/2006 - Another Day At The Quarry

Well today since i am on vacation and my plans to go to San Diego fell thru i was able to go diving down at Haigh Quarry  in Kankakee IL  my home away from home when diving i was just there two weeks ago .  Yesterday went i went to one of my  LDS for an air fill there was a women who had ask if i would like to join her group for a day of diving at the Quarry on Tuesday.I said sure so we made plans and set a time to meet.

We  met this morning at 7:30am at the quarry there were 4 of us Maggie  her daughter  Julie and Mike her daughters boyfriend. Air temp today was about 83degrees windy this time 16  to 21 mph out of the south  west water temp was 64 to 25feet about 53 at 45feet the vis was still good at 30ft.

Did two good dives the first dive was to 40 feet and yes i did wear my hood and gloves not like two weeks ago when i did wear them. Both dives were deep water entry s off the piers they have and both exits were done up the ladder onto the peir. On the first dive we floated over to the wall i dove two weeks ago and this time we drop down to 40 ft and started a nice sl;ow wall dive stopping to look with our flash lights into the nooks and in between the rocks lots of fish all over the place today.First dive was 40 ft for 38 minutes.Took a nice two hour break between dives.

Second dive we took up where we left off at the wall drop down to 30 ft and followed it till  the end.  We went over to golf ball rock, from there to the rock crusher and drill with a lot of exploring done looking under  the rock crusher with flashlights. This time lots of catfish .As we started to run low on air 600 psi we surface and decider to float over to the deep water entry piers and exit like last time. Second dive 30ft 35 minutes.

It was fun  and what made it a lot of fun was first this was the first time these 3 had been to this quarry. There use to going  to Pearl Lake  which is  north west of Chicago. I took my AOW classes there  it was a sand quarry. Second sometimes  a last minute plan is better then one made weeks in  advance. Until next time

5/28/2006 - First Dives Of The Season.

Yesterday Saturday  May 27th  my dive buddy  Tim and i made our first dives of the season out at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee IL .Tim lives over in Indiana and i am in the North west Burbs of Chicago so for me it s a 82 mile run one way to the Quarry. Now since we both live in the Midwest you can quess how are Winters are and why we dont dive after November and we really look forward to Spring and the start of the dive season.

Any way all of last week we have been having great weather in the 70 s and 80 s today Sunday were in the 90s. The Quarry yesterday   was great.Air Temp 83 ,  Wind was out of the South West 10 to 13 mph, Water Temp to 25ft was 60 degrees, Vis was 30ft  and the  Thermocline kick in at 30ft which was 50degrees.

Our first dive was at 30ft for 30 minutes over in the area of the Rock Crusher and Drill. We actually stayed at 30 feet for about 8 minutes we chose not to wear gloves and hood s so on this   dive we stayed at 25 to 28 ft and we were never chilled  yes those ScubaPro 7mm wet suits work great. Tim was trying out his new underwater camera for the first time and had a chance to take a picture of a Paddle Fish but he could not get his camera off his  BC fast enough. My back was to him i was busy  having a stare down with two rather large Catfish. I quess i was in there way and they would not go around me so after about a minute of  this i gave up and went around them.

After we surface we floated back to the beach just took our time stop and talk to some other divers who had just came up from a dive. We stayed out for a few hour s just catching up on what has been going on and were talking with some other divers. Then around noon with fresh tanks we were ready to go again.

I took the lead on the second dive this time we did a wall dive that starts right by the beach. This dive was 30 ft for 35 minutes.  He got me hook on Wall dives last year ,  this dive starts out in 15ft of water and as you are going along you going over mounds of rocks then you come to the edge and look over and it, about  another 35  ft to the bottom.Well we drop down to another 15 ft  which gave us 30 ft and we began our wall dive .We went along the wall for about a good 20minutes.Saw a lot of fish along the wall such as  Pearch, Bass and of course Catfish.

We did find this large boulder in a sandy area at 25 ft called Golf Ball Rock. Yes some Dive club named it that and put in a golf mat with a tee and a broken golf club and golf balls. Now the whole idea behind it is if you find lots of  golf balls around your home or at a garage sale bring them to the Quarry and place them on Gold Ball Rock. This was the end of our second dive for the day. We surface and just floated back to the beach which took about as long as our dive.

We only had two little things go wrong. On the first dive as i got into the water i could hear a small air hissing comming from either my tank vale or the reg.  Turns out to be the O ring on my new tank so  it was out of the water an a 300 yd  hike up to the Quarrys Dive Shop. Now on the second dive we had just gotten down to 15 ft when Tim gave me the thums up. When we got to the surface the first thing i said to him was are you ok. Tim said yes i am ok but i left my dive computer with our gear on the beach. So now it was his turn for a little hike to get his computer.

We only made two dives Saturday but it was enough to get us started. I made  dives 20 and 21 Tim made dives 50 and 51. There is still a lot to see around   Haigh Quarry  which is also called  HQ and we hope to see alot more in the comming months as we head into summer. Yesterday there about 150 divers  of which 30 of us went to dive the rest were in classes.   I think all of the dive shops from Chicago land area where there doing OW, AOW, and Rescue classes. Seeing the look on the new students face as they headed to the water for the first time and then to see them with a smile when they came out of the water hey we all know how they felt we have all be there before. It was a fun day looking forward to our next day of diving in June.  My dive club is going tommorow Monday which is Memorial Day for a day of diving and a cook out but i have to work which i dont mind there will be other cookouts and dives this Summer with them.

5/21/2006 - It s Time

It s time to get wet and blow some bubbles for me on Saturday May 27 at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee Il.Just found out the other day from my dive buddy that the Water temp is 55 and the Vis is 30ft. There is still a lot for us to see at the Quarry that we have not seen yet .Plus my dive club Midwest Divers are having a day of diving and a cook out there on Monday the 29th of  May so i have to let them know at our monthly meeting Thursday night if i will be going to the dive/cook out.I may not be able to go i might have to work but should find out during the week.

I am really looking forward to going Saturday and starting out the 2006 dive season with some good dives. No more Mid Winter pool dives just to be blowing bubbles till next winter plus i get to use my new Tank and BCD that i bought last Dec .So i will tell you all about it some time Saturday. 4/19/2006 - Soon Soon

Well it s starting to warm up her in the Midwest(NW Burbs Of Chicago) the last two week s so maybe in the next two weeks or three i will head down to the Quarry and blow some bubbles.Right now the water temp is 42 degrees and the vis is 30ft. Were waiting for it  to hit 48 to 50 degrees. I know if i had a  Dry suit no problem. But i just bought a newScubaPro 7mm Thermal Tec Streamer a year ago last Dec and really like it a lot .

Last weekend just to blow some bubbles and to check out my dive gear i did a pool  dive at a  friend of a friends home.Hey at least i was able to check out my gear and pratice some skills which i always do when i do two or three pool dives during the Winter . You know pratice makes perfect.

Now if i still lived in San Diego Calif i would not have this problem. Yes i am a Transplant. Most people from the Midwest either go to Florida, Arz or Calif to retire or better job. I have beeen out here since 78 and love it here  but i still go back to San Diego every 5 or 7 years to see the family and friends .I always go back to my hang outs Wind and Sea Beach for Body Surfing,Marine Street for  Body Surfing  and La Jolla Cove for Scuba Diving.  I was once open water certified back in 73  thru NAUI and when i moved out here i sold every thing, Just as well everything in the way of gear has changed for the better i saw that as i started to go back into diving.

Well till next time Dive Safe Dive Often.

4/9/2006 - Dry Suit Demo Day/ Tank Dive Part 2

Well  yesterday Saturday  (April 8th) was the Dry Suit  Demo and Tank Dive at  my LDA. It started around  10am with a tour of the building the new tank is in. When you are up stairs on the deck looking in to the tank it looks just like a back yard above ground pool except your 20ft off the main floor. The tank has and entry ladder that leads to a nice size platform in about 4 ft of water after that it 15ft down to the bottom. Water temp is a nice 80 degrees at least that what it was yesterday.

After the tour we had the   Dry Suit Demo. These suits were his Rentals that were Diving Concepts and Bare.  The owner of the shop told us about the different models of suits we would us and and the difference in each one and yes the price range. He also talk about what to wear underneath the suit,  what temp the suit was good for, how to inflate and deflate your suit, how to don and doff the suit, how the seals work, how and how you can make some repairs your self. how to weight yourself, and last how to keep your suit in good condition.

Then we pick out the suit we wanted to try out so i had a Bare 6mm High density Neoprene suit on which is for cold water diving only from 50 degrees and below. So you don your suit get  in the water on the platform form where a dive master help you by  holding you tank and bcd while you slip it on. Then when the other diver got out of the water from his or her dive you and the instructor  who was Cathy that was in the pool to dive with you to make sure everything was ok. It was one on one for about 12 minutes at 15ft.

What did i learn ? I came away with knowing more about Dry Suits then i did when i got there at the LDS on  Saturday morning. Oh yes we were told about the Squeeze and where they happen at and what points of the suit and body they occur.Yes i felt it.

You divers out there who dive in Dry Suits have one hell of a GOOD piece of equipment So until next time Dive safe Dive Often

3/18/2006 - Dry Suit Demo Day/Tank Dive.

Well its still kind of cold here in the Midwest to go diving but my  LDS(Local Dive Shop) offers Pool Pratice Dives at the local High School when he has OW pool clases on the first and third Sunday of the month year round or i should say he use to. I knew he was building a Tank in the building two doors  down  from the dive shop and i saw it  under construction  back in Janurary when i was at the shop. The tank is 25ft in DIA and 15ft deep.

The other day i got and E mail from them saying that on April 8 they were going to have a Dry Suit Demo Day at the shop put on by Diving Concepts. So today i took a run up there and sign up for the Dry Suit Demo Day.They will show you and tell you about the material used, how to don and doff a Dry Suit ,basic buoyancy control and then a little time to blow some bubbles in the Tank The shop is charging $10 and they supply all the gear only thing i bring is my mask, fins and swim suit or skins.Sounds like its going to be fun so i will let you know how it turns out..

3/11/2006 - New Dive season

Hello from the Midwest this is my first time doing a Blog so just bear with me. I hope to be able to get a lot more diving in this year then i did last year. Right now i do most of my diving in Kankakee IL at a place called Haigh Quarry or as we like to call it HQ for short.

They opened just last Saturday  March 4th just for weekends for now.  Its a 12 acre spring fed rock quarry just for  SCUBS DIVING and NO FISHING . There are lots of things to see underwater and of course lots of fish.I will be diving HQ a lot again this summer.

I also might go on a charter boat dive on Lake Michigan this summer thru my dive club Midwest Divers which i just joined back in Jan 06.

As soon as the weather out here  in my neck of the woods gets a little warmer i will be heading out to do some diving i hope its soon maybe by the end  of March early April. So until my next Blog  Dive Safe Dive Often.
