8/17/2006 - Lady Elliot, Lady Musgrave and Fairfax Island Liveaboard - Dive Musgrave
What a weekend!

Love That Vis! Photo by Matty Jnr
As always, it started crazy as. I had packed in advance this time, but I still had to pick up my new computer from the dive store before heading to work. My day itself was crazy busy, with me unable to leave the office until 30mins past my absolute MUST DEPART time. Then I got caught in terrible traffic. I drove up to Bundaberg, with only a 10min pee and cheeseburger break in Gympie before continuing on.

I was so tired coming into Bundaberg - know that I had arrived but still had to get to the pub to meet everyone before we got to the boat, loaded all our gear, signed in and had the brief before I could even THINK about sleep just wore me totally out. We finally got to the boat around 11pm, and pulled out of Bundaberg port just before midnight.

Macro Practise
I was suprised to see two new faces on board the Venus II. Mitch and Tony were not in attendance, so we had a new dive coordinator (Dan) and a new cook (Valerie). Dan did an admirable job, but wasn't as experienced or knowledgable about the sites as Mitch. This was Val's first time on the Venus II, and as such, the quality of the meals and the types of meals wasn't quite up to Tony's level, but they were still damned good!
We pulled out of the port, and the first thing I noticed was just how calm it was. This was indicitive of the whole trip. Infact it was so calm that we didn't even have the stablisers in for the run from Musgrave to Elliot or from Elliot back to Bundaberg. Such a far cry from the rough rough rough conditions of our previous crossings. All I could think was how some members of our last trip would never believe me. So I took LOTS of photos of the calmness just to make sure.

Sunrise Over Lady Musgrave
We woke up at Lady Musgrave Island. Once again it just took my breath away. We did two morning dives here at Musgrave before motoring over to Fairfax Island for two afternoon dives. Unfortunately, my third dive of the day was cut short due to my buddy putting on the wrong weight belt. We had to get pulled in on the tender... which was a giggle in itself. I love this dive, especially because of the amount of turtles and corals. Oh well - next time.

What do you mean you can't descend??????
We moored at Musgrave again for a very still nights sleep - I woke up and forgot we were at sea the room was so still.
Our first dive of the second day was at Manta Ray Bommie - which last time shared zippo mantas - this time we saw 4! It was incredible.

Another Perfect Sunrise
We did another 3 dives at Musgrave including an "antidrift" and a night dive.

End of another Perfect Day

Our last day saw us motor over to Lady Elliot.

Lady Elliot Island
This was a first for almost all of us on the trip. We completed two dives here which produced yet more mantas, tolerant turtles and incredible vis!

Yacht Wreck at Lady Elliot Island
It was very sad to head back to the mainland. Another fantastic dive trip over.

Sunset back at Bundy Port
Dolphins, Whales and Mantas OH MY!

Shona and Pete on Whale Watch
I think I forgot to mention the large amounts of whales.
