6/7/2006 - Time to get back in the water
Well, I have been dry since Easter… Amazingly coinciding with starting a new job and working my tushie off. If only that was the case – for while I am working harder than I can remember, the butt is not disappearing and I have actually gained just over a 1kg in 7 weeks. Not good.
I am really looking forward to joining my club for a night dive this weekend – though I doubt the dive will be spectacular – 30 people – with a fair few kicking up the bottom – but to just be back in… Priceless.
I should explain some back story. Upon returning from OS earlier this year, I decided that I was through being mired in mediocrity and decided to change jobs. I got a number of offers but hung out for the dream company – which I got. It is definitely a case of be careful what you wish for! I am learning more than I could have imagined, and dealing with thought leaders in my industry – my team is filled with best in the state people… so it can at times be a little daunting. Probably the hardest thing has been the extra train travel – but it was my choice to take the role…. I have been looking for a new home in my soon to be home town but it is proving to be much harder than I expected.
So, why haven’t I been diving?
Working myself into the ground so permanently on the verge of a cold (though not this week – cross fins!)
Spend my weekends sleeping or house hunting
That doesn’t leave too much time for diving unfortunately. Last weekend was the first time I had been down to the water – I went to the Poopipe to say hi to the dive gang, before going for a walk along the beach with my girlfriend and her dog. It was so wonderful to be out in the open, sun gently on my skin (thanks hat and sun screen) and the spray of salt in the air.
Hopefully this time next week – I will be reflecting on a fun night dive and a kick butt bbq and party afterwards.
Later dayz!
