Wreckreational Diving

12/10/2005 - Marineland Once Again

One of the great things about Marineland is the large reef areas. While everyone spread out toward their own destinations, Missy, her husband Doug and I entered off the point and explored the main reef. With so many divers in the water at once, we didn't see another one. We found the usual assortment of nudis, octopus and fish, but were also treated to a rare sight. A large Batray was eating on the sand and didn't seem to mind the intruders. They usually bolt when a diver gets close. Hovering around the ray was a fish I have never seen in California. It is similar to a Pacific Spadefish. I hope to learn the identification soon.
