9/3/2012 - Back(scatter) To The Barge

We returned to the Redondo Barge this morning with Kevin Lee in hopes of revisiting the spectacular conditions I observed yesterday. Visibility was half of what I enjoyed then. In fact, I apologize in advance for the backscatter in my photos. We were in a thick soup, although visibility was still better than twenty feet. Merry swam over to Phil's Reef, about sixty feet from the barge and could see both from above.

There were still some Mola Molas with cleaning appointments hanging over the barge. I tried to get closer today with surprising luck, but the soup prohibited me from getting any Kevin-like shots.

A couple of the sunfish had sea lion damage to their fins. We didn't find any dead fish on the bottom, but I don't know if these guys are long for the underwater world.

After a long surface interval we decided to make a second dive on the barge. I switched to a macro setup so I could check out the octopus nests. There are several Red Octopus nests in the area. Kevin found a Two-Spot octopus nest last month, but the eggs don't seem to be fertilized. The octomom is still hanging in there.

What's a dive on the barge without some simnia shots?
