7/4/2009 - Conditions Improving At Marineland

Merry and I headed out over the sand this morning to look for Tritonia diomedea nudis among the sea pens. We found some eggs but no nudibranchs. The dive wasn't a total loss, though. We spotted a side-gill slug, Pleurobranchaea californica, a twelve inch California Lizardfish, Synodus lucioceps and two different salp chains, Pegea confoederata and Salpa fusiformis.
The visibility was much improved over yesterday. We had fifteen feet over the reef and it improved drastically as we got deeper over the sand to well over twenty-five feet. The 49F water temp may have played a role in that.
