Wreckreational Diving

8/13/2005 - Wrinkles Dive

The SoCal forum on Scubaboard.com has a ton of great divers. Many have been friends of mine for awhile, some are new friends. Each month we have a get together known as the Wrinkes Dive. Today we met at Veteran's Park in Redondo Beach. During the Winter months Redondo Canyon comes alive with mating squid followed by their predators...and theirs! The rest of the year it is a sandy bottom with not much to see, or so I've heard. Every dive I've made there has shown me lots of gilled friends. Today was no exception. We found octopus in the open, in bottles, shoes and even in a lost dive mask. Trash collects along the edge of the canyon. It is a sad sight unless you look close. What appears to be a dumpsite has become home to millions of animals. Crabs, nudibranchs, fish and jellies can be found year round. Now that the red tide has moved on, the visibility has improved to 20 feet plus, more than enough to enjoy the life surrounding us.
