3/27/2006 - Memories

I was looking through some old files earlier tonight and found a few pictures that had some nice memories. I enjoy all of the nice memories I have from previous dives, dive buddies and life in general. Like everyone, I've had good times and bad, but I try to let the bad disappear because it only serves to bring me down. My first dive buddy was my ex-wife Marilyn. We snorkeled together all over Palos Verdes and Laguna Beach before getting certified. Once we began diving, photography seemed to be the next natural progression. Marilyn bought a Nikonos V and spent every cent she had on film, or at least it seemed that way. She was able to win some awards in our dive club with her images, including my favorites.

I had no talent nor patience for still photography. I liked the instant gratification of video and have a couple dozen hours of video that is mostly bad, but it all has wonderful memories for me. Granted, this was before the digital age, but the only video transfers I saved are from an amazing dive in Redondo Canyon. This was the last big squid run I saw. Even in good visibility, we could not see more than a few feet through the soup of squid.

I have been fortunate to dive with some of the nicest people I have ever met. The past few months have given me new memories that I will treasure forever. My last dive gave me some nice memories, and I know I will continue to collect them for a long time to come. I look forward to being an old man looking back at so many wonderful experiences with the best people. The best is yet to come.
