3/12/2006 - Just Say No

Being a rocky surf entry, Marineland can be quite a challenge in moderate surf. It can be downright dangerous in high surf. It was moderately high today, with the mud stirred up enough to keep me out of the water. A few divers decided to give it a try, including one who was making her first dive here. She borrowed my weightbelt since I was staying dry today. I'll go back to Marineland at the next minus tide to look for it. Out of seven divers who entered the water, all were knocked down and had to be helped out of the water. The were able to get beyond the muddy water, but never found more than four feet of visibility. I was content to stay on the beach and be the spotter on the cliff for the recue/helpers. Nobody was hurt, at least not physically. I told my friend Merry, who got the worst of it that she has now joined the ranks of hundreds of divers who have been pounded into submission by Marineland. Hopefully next week will bring back the flat sea and great vis.
