Judi Bedard, 48, is in critical condition at Shands Gainesville after
a cave diving accident at the Eagle's Nest system on September 13.
a witness at the scene describes the following events:
She was obviously in trouble, hemorrhaging from her eyes and ears,
foaming from her mouth. They cut [her] out of the harness that held
her scuba tanks and pulled her up onto the dock. She wasn't breathing.
She had no pulse. Banks and Pelland began CPR. After 15 to 20 minutes,
her heart came back to life. Soon after, she started breathing, but she did
not regain consciousness.

Judi is from Williston, Florida, and is a registered nurse and a
certified cave diver. Rudy Banks was her dive buddy at the time of the
accident, and is also fully certified. While in the hospital,
she has had cardiac arrest three times and is clearly fighting for her life.
Eagle's Nest is a very advanced dive, and it was the site of a double
fatality last June (2004). apparently, Judi had some equipment trouble
at depth. reports say she was at 130 feet when she had a problem that
caused her to become disoriented. she then became unconscious as
her buddy brought her to the surface.
I very much am thinking of Judi (though we've never met) and
wishing she pulls through.
