Ok, lets tell the story without names or figures. In that way everything is much better....
But, since the last month or so, something has been in my head related DiversJobs.com. 6 weeks ago, a BIG company contacted me interested in buying the website : www.diversjobs.com . First I though everything was just an hoax, but after a few emails and a quick phone called, an offer was put on the table. A really interesting offer.
The issue is that selling the website to this company brings an ethical question.
I'm aware that DiversJobs brings a great service to people. I know many people that have a job now thanks to DiversJobs, not only thanks to the diving job posting service, but also for the option of letting Dive Centers find their CV's and approach them with private job offers.
I know by fact that if I sell DiversJobs, the main idea of the site will change....
So.... what should I do?
I guess soon we will find out.

Difficult one
Lets say you sold it, what will happen without a doubt is people will complain, call you a sellout, swear at you or whatever
Now, chances are not even 10% of these people bother to contac you and say thanks for the great service you offer with diversjobs. Human nature I guess
I have been in similar sorts of situations, and you know what it all boils down to whats best for you/your company.
Good luck either way, I visit diversjobs.com often, so I for one would miss it if you sold it

Your decision
Gabriel- much as many of us would prefer to see it stay the way it is, you created the site and it should be your decision whether to "capitalize" on your creation. We won't hold it against you if you make a few bucks with the idea, will we folks?

if it sets you up well
Go for it if it sets you up to do new and better things. Chances are with more money and resources you'll be able to find some way of helping people. It will be interesting to hear how it goes.

So it appears you are able to sell or keep. I suppose this is your decision ultimetly, but than their are issue.
1. What do you plan to do with the information gathered? Did you infact tell posters that their information could ultimetly be sold by you? Is selling out going to mean you have double crossed fellow divers by breaking a promise of confidentiality?
All in all sell or not it is uo to you. Only you can decide if your selling will violate a confidentiality or perhaps better said a promise to make this information available for free their by maximizing its disemination.
You could just ask the indivdual divers who have supplied you the information whether they want it returned or sold as is with no promises...
