The Dive Mistress

July 4th Sunrise Dive @ Deadman's

Posted in Unspecified

Ok, my was twisted to get into the water this morning.

Met up with Steve Schirmer, Kevin Glenn, and a 'guest' buddy, Marshal Krupp.  Met up at the wee hours of 5:30am at North Crsent Bay.  Conditions looked suprisingly calmer than yesterday, alost 'Lake Laguna' as Rich Parker puts it with an occassional 1-2' footers coming in.

Got geared up and made our way out to the drop down point before sun-up.  Took a pretty pic looking over the water back towards shore of the sun approaching the hill tops of Laguna.  What a sight!  Look up, and you will see what I saw on this glorious morning.

Viz from the surface looked stellar.  Unfortunately, wasn't that way when we dropped down. Again, like yesterday, viz was found in the shallows 40' and above with it deteriating at depth.

Explored the shallower regions of Deadman's today.  What fun to see new terrain just when I thought I'd seen everything.  LOL  Saw the same critters as yesterday.  I pretty much played with my camera working in different modes/ effects.  Steve spotted the giant Sheep Head I saw yesterday, but I missed him today.  One thing that was pretty cool, was a cleaning station of sorts for Girabaldi and younger male and female Sheephead.  I have never seen so many Girabaldi in one spot before, so that was pretty cool.  Dummy me, should have put my camera on Video mode at that point.  Oh well...next time....tomorrow?

We were 65 minutes into our dive when I noticed the time.  Ooops!  I gotta get to work.  I 'bubbled' Adios to Steve, Kevin, and Marshal and made my way back to shore.  Exited without incident.  Nice dive, glad I went out.  Thanks Steve, Kevin, and Marshal for a great dive!  Let's do it again SOON!

On another note...we noticed people *CAMPING* on the beach!!!  Three tents were set up, and there were people sleeping even outside of the tents as well.  If that doesn't add fuel to the City to enforce a curfew, I don't know what will.  Ugh......
