11/6/2006 - Nudibranchs

Posted in Photos

I've heard shipwreck photographers like to take photo's of shipwrecks "because they don't move". I like taking photo's of Nudibrachs for the exact same reason. Nudibranchs would have to be one of the easiest things to photograph underwater (in my opinion). As no diving will be taking place this weekend, I thought I'd post some nudibranch photos I've taken. All these nudibranch photos were taken during my trip to the Philippines in 2004.

loved the photos! I like nudi's but I'm crap at spotting them. I am afraid I've probably kicked a few in the head by accident on many occasion!!! Love to know what camera set up you took these on...? (although no doubt way out of my league!!!)

Oh, wow, those are absolutely BEAUTIFUL photos. Really. I'm in awe at the clarity and colour and sharpness of those!

What camera set up are you using, and what sort of macro can you achieve? And (sorry for the questions) are you using a strobe?!

Cheers,
Grace - who is totally impressed with those!

My camera is a very basic digital camera - Sea & Sea DX3000. Basically it's just a standard digital point and shoot camera (in my case, a Ricoh Caplio R30) in a underwater housing. I didn't use a strobe on any of these photos, they were taken using natural light, with the exception of one, which I used a torch to help light it.
Most digital cameras these days have a "macro" feature on them. It's just a case of turning on the macro and getting up close enough to the subject and take the photo.
